Key aspects of the project

This page outlines the scope of the project and what it will deliver to Dornie Village.
The Key Aspects of the project are: Installation of a pontoon and bridge system to the pontoon in loch Long; Installation of  moorings: 8-10 in Totaig Bay and 3 in Loch Long; Purchase of a workboat to enable maintenance of the moorings & pontoons.

We are following a Phased approach to the project.
Phase 1a: Totaig Moorings & Workboat
Phase 1b: Loch Long Moorings
Phase 2: Pontoon in Loch Long

Should you have any questions at all about any aspect of the project, please contact us via the Get Involved / Contact page.

Pontoon

Location: Along the shore of Francis St, between the slipway (land-side entry point) and running to level with the Dornie Hotel Bar.

Dimensions: Total Length = 72.25m and width 3m approximately (std pontoon 54.25m + rowing pontoon 18m). Height from surface of sea = Standard pontoon 500mm / rowing pontoon 150mm.

Additional detail: It is intended that the pontoons will be supplied with power from Francis St to enable navigation lighting and a 240v power supply for vessels. Water will also be connected.

Please note: The Pontoon is designed for a maximum vessel length of 12m so should be significantly over specification for our needs.

Bridge to pontoon

Location: Entry to the bridge will be close to the top of the existing slipway. The entry point will be gated and access to the pontoon will be via a daily or annually generated code.

Dimensions: The fixed land to pier gangway is 15m long and the articulating gangway from pier to pontoon is 24m long. Both gangways are 1.2m wide.

Moorings

Current scope / intention: (TBC by our marine engineer) is to lay moorings in 2 locations.

Totaig Bay: between 8 and 10 moorings

Loch Long mouth: appx 3 moorings

All moorings will be pay to use by either permanent or visitors. Moorings will be split appx 50/50 between permanent and visitor.

Cost of use of a mooring will be confirmed and will be comparable to costs of Kyle & Plockton.

Each mooring will be inspected as per requirements of our insurance company.

Workboat

As part of the project we are looking to raise funds to buy a workboat (example pictured).

The workboat is required to enable us to maintain the pontoons and moorings ourselves without using contractors, thus keeping costs to a minimum.

Example boat only
